Rundel Library Rochester, New York
Project Description
The Rundel Library was constructed in 1933 - 1934. The structural system consists of concrete piers to bedrock, structural steel columns, beams, built-up girders and cast-in-place concrete floor systems. Cast-in-place concrete encasements 2" to 4" in thickness were formed around the structural members in some areas to provide fireproofing. In other areas fireproofing was provided by a terra cotta system of stucco and clay tile. Over the years (75 +/-_) the steel members have corroded, damaging the concrete and terra cotta fireproofing systems. These projects involved the removal of the damaged concrete and terra cotta, cleaning of the steel and concrete (areaway) surfaces, repair of the steel members and concrete surfaces, and the application of a new two hour cementitous fireproofing system.
