Design Description

Visual structural inspection and repair of the existing 140'-0" high chimney located in the south parking lot of the mall. The exterior surface of the chimney is constructed of clay brick masonry units that measure 5 ½" in height, 7" in length, and 7 ½" in thickness. The top one third of the chimney is only one wythe in thickness. The repair ultimately included the removal of the top 50 courses of masonry to eliminate the most severely weathered mortar joints, and then the routing, repointing and replacing of damaged masonry units the remaining height of the chimney.
